Surat: Rs 1.5 lakh collected for Army in Daayro

SURAT: Parth Nayak, son of a rich farmer in Kadodara, always wanted to join the armed forces. But somehow, his dream never materialized.
However, this did not deter him from doing something our jawans. On Tuesday night, when he tied the nuptial knot, Parth’s father Ramesh organized a ‘daayro’ (folk music programme) where it rained money. In no time, Rs 1.5 lakh was collected as people showered currency notes.This money will be now be donated for army jawans welfare.
Parth specially invited folk singer Geeta Rabari from Kutch to perform in his marriage, knowing that people traditionally shower notes in such programmes.
“ I wanted to join army as a career. However, it just couldn’t become possible. From that day, I had decided that I will do my bit for army jawans and help improve their lives. So I convinced my father to organize a daayro and he readily agreed at a short notice,” Parth told TOI.
Along with the audience, some of whom even showered US dollars, bride Riddhi Desai and Parth too showered currency.
Ramesh Nayak is owns nearly 45 bigha land in Kadodara, 20 km from Surat city. He cultivates sugarcane and has mango orchards as well.
Talking to TOI, Nayak said, “My son always wanted to do something for jawans and therefore we organized this folk music event. We did not invite many people but only relatives and close friends were present. We want to use the collected amount for army jawans.”
